FAQ

About Our Items

What does "Undyed" actually mean for my garment?

Our knitwear celebrates the cotton in its purest form. "Undyed" means we do not use any synthetic pigments or toxic bleaches. The colors you see—creams, sands, and soft browns—are the natural shades of the cotton as it grew in the earth. This preserves the fiber’s integrity and ensures no chemical residues ever touch your skin.

Why is Organic Pima Cotton considered "The Silk of South America"?

Pima cotton is an "Extra-Long Staple" fiber. Its length makes the yarn significantly smoother, stronger, and softer than conventional cotton. Because ours is organic and hand-harvested in Peru, it maintains a natural luster and durability that actually improves with every wash and wear.

Will my knitwear stretch or lose its shape?

Like any high-quality natural fiber, our knits have a "memory." While they may relax slightly during wear to contour to your body, they return to their original shape after a gentle wash. To ensure longevity, we always recommend storing your knits folded rather than on a hanger to prevent gravity from stretching the fibers.

How often do I really need to wash these pieces?

Not as often as you think. Because organic fibers are naturally breathable and antimicrobial, they don’t trap odors like synthetics do. Often, simply airing your garment out in a shaded spot is enough to refresh it. When you do wash, a gentle, cold cycle is all that’s needed to honor the fiber.

What is the "Seed-to-Stitch" philosophy?

This is our commitment to total transparency. We trace every step of our journey—from the organic seeds planted in Peru to the final stitch made by our artisanal partners. We prioritize ethical labor, fair wages, and ecological farming, ensuring that your garment supports both the person who made it and the planet.

Does your cotton pill?

Pilling is a natural occurrence in all high-quality natural fibers caused by friction. However, because Pima cotton has extra-long fibers, it pills significantly less than standard cotton. If small pills do appear, they can be easily removed by hand or with a gentle knitwear comb, leaving your piece looking brand new.

Why are some pieces only available in limited quantities?

We believe in "slow production." By creating in small batches, we eliminate the waste of overproduction and ensure that every single piece receives the attention it deserves. Many of our items are tied to the natural harvest cycles of our Peruvian farmers, making each collection a limited, seasonal reflection of the earth.

Pre-Orders

When will my pre-order begin its journey to me?

For our current collection, pre-orders placed by June 2026 are scheduled to ship August 2026. This timeline honors our slow production cycle: once the window closes, our artisanal partners in Peru begin the delicate process of knitting each piece in small, intentional batches, ensuring every stitch is perfect before it leaves the studio.

Why does the pre-order process take several months?

ílát is the antithesis of fast fashion. Because we use rare, undyed Organic Pima cotton, we do not keep vast warehouses of stock. Instead, we produce only what is requested. This "Seed-to-Stitch" approach eliminates waste and allows our knitters in Peru the time required for high-level craftsmanship. We believe that quality of this nature cannot be rushed—it is grown, then gathered, then knitted.

Can I modify or cancel my pre-order?

We understand that plans can change. You may modify or cancel your order at any time before our production cycle begins on June 2026. Simply reach out to us at hello@ilatstudios.com. Once our knitters have begun crafting your specific piece, we are unable to accommodate further changes as the materials have already been dedicated to your garment.

Will these pieces be available after the pre-order window?

To maintain our commitment to sustainability, we produce very limited quantities beyond our pre-order requests. While a small selection may be available on our site in September 2026, we cannot guarantee that specific sizes or styles will remain. Pre-ordering is the only way to secure your chosen piece in our undyed, seasonal harvest.

Why is payment collected at checkout?

Your payment at checkout directly supports the entire ecosystem of ílát. It allows us to secure the organic raw materials from our farmers and fairly compensate our artisanal knitters at the start of the process. This model ensures a transparent and stable supply chain where everyone is supported from the very first stitch.

What if I need my knit for a specific date or event?

While we would love to be part of your special moments, our timeline is dictated by the rhythm of ethical production and the nature of organic fibers. We are unable to expedite individual orders, as doing so would compromise our commitment to quality and the well-being of our makers. We appreciate your patience in waiting for a garment made with such intention.

We aim for these dates with every intention, though we remain mindful of the natural rhythms of harvest and transit.
